You are a monarch, just as your parents were before you, ruling over a small but pleasant kingdom of rivers and evergreens. However, unlike your parents, you have grand ambitions! You dream of expanding your realm, claiming more land, more rivers, and an even greater variety of trees. You seek to build a Dominion!
Surrounding you are fiefs, freeholds, and feodums—small, disorganized lands controlled by petty lords, teetering on the brink of anarchy. You will bring order and civilization, uniting these lands under your banner. But you are not the only ruler with such aspirations. Other monarchs have set their sights on the same goal, and you must act quickly to claim unclaimed lands while fending off your rivals. To accomplish this, you will recruit minions, construct buildings, fortify your castle, and amass wealth. Your parents might disapprove, but your maternal grandparents would be thrilled.
In Dominion, each player begins with a small, identical deck of cards. In the center of the table lies a selection of additional cards that players can "buy" as they can afford them. By carefully choosing which cards to acquire and strategically playing their hands, players build their deck in real time, competing for the most efficient path to valuable victory points by the game's end.
Unlike a collectible card game (CCG), Dominion is a deck-building game that offers a similar experience to constructing and playing a CCG deck—but without the need to collect cards separately. The base game includes 500 cards, with 10 of 26 available Kingdom card types selected for each playthrough, ensuring immense replayability.
Dominion (Second Edition) refines the original game by replacing six Kingdom cards with new ones and introducing a seventh new Kingdom card in place of the blank cards. The rulebook has been rewritten, and three cards—Moneylender, Mine, and Throne Room—have been slightly adjusted for improved gameplay. Additionally, other cards have been reworded for clarity while maintaining their original functionality.
With endless strategic possibilities, Dominion challenges you to build the most powerful kingdom and secure your place in history!
